My Locale Oregon and Washington
About Me I started hiking about 45 years ago. My first backpack was 40 years ago. I currently try to do one backpack trip of 5 nights every month (which can be tricky in the winter) 20 to 50 miles. Mostly I stay around Mount Hood, Columbia Gorge, Mount Adams, Goat Rocks, and the Olympic Peninsula. In recent years I have shifted to lightweight - my pack weight without food and water is about 15 lb (7 kg). I make a lot of my own gear - silnylon tarp-tent, bivy, synthetic bag, simple bag style pack. My sleeping pad is a Therm-a-Rest air mattress.

Good link Daryl They were mostly just testing rope/webbing. Didn't test webbing to fabric. With webbing loop, all the load is concentrated on the end away from the loop so you want lots ...

I wear Gore-Tex boots (or shoes) with gaiters in rain and near freezing temps and my merino socks don't get wet, just damp. I've experimented with breathable shoes and the socks get a lot ...

Re: Re: Re: non-stick pans and wood fires?
If you over heat Teflon, it loses it's non-stick property so food starts sticking. You're probably right, okay to eat Teflon flakes, but doesn't sound appetizing. I wonder if over...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Ukraine's poison pill for peace talks
In the past we've had military bases and orchestrated coups, like the Shah of Iran, and the wars in Afganistan and Iraq. All the chaos in the middle East today is largely because of such. U.K....
