Colo Plateau
So many things to do, but staying away from NPs is unfortunate - nearly tragic. But anyway, my brother did Buckskin/Paria with his dog. I think he had webbing to lower her on the one down climb.

I've found the La Sportiva Helios to be exceptionally durable, at least for trail running. They also fit your "more/less" criteria. 4mm drop & light.

Sounds to me like you're tying the shoes too tight & causing stress on the tendons on the top of your foot. You could try the Sportiva Helios, which has a 4mm drop.
