About Me Formerly from MN and NY, now in Reno, NV, I have been hiking every summer in the High Sierra since 2000. From 2000-2007, we did the High Sierra Trail (HST). Been doing the John Muir Trail since then, every year. I am the lead moderator for the JohnMuirTrail@YahooGroups.com for 2011-2013. I organized groups (without charge) for the JMT, 2008-2011 for the hike I participated in (from 5 to 8 people). I'm doing a JMT 2014 group hike again. See my Google Profile for more and top links on a variety of topics (click on "My Website URL above").

Re: Kifaru 3700 to 5200
I have a Kifaru 5200 pack. You do not want to put a Bearikade Expedition Cannister in it sideways positioned, because it's easy to scratch the outer layer if you rub against something, but the...

Re: "The BIG 4. JMT next summer."
There's never food in my tent but there are items with sweat in them. I figure the netting gives me enough time to be aware they are there and to shoo them away. It's kind of a psychologi...

Re: "The BIG 4. JMT next summer."
I'm more worried about marmots on the JMT than flies. To avoid the flies, just dry camp. Marmots can be quite aggressive in wanting to get to your gear. I prefer to have the netting up to se...

Robert, you must be confused about my gear preferences because the co-moderator is so old-style, heavy weight gear-inclined. I came to the JMT YahooGroup from BPL not the otherway around. Nothin...

Re: Z Packs
The Hexamid Twin Tarp tent is very durable. I've owned one for 2 years now and it handles the JMT just fine. My only recommendation is that if you carry the tent on the outside of your pack, ...
