About Me The top of the mountain is more an afterthought than a destination for me. Its the trees and creatures, the weather and people along the way that make the walking good. It's why it's always so hard to come back down. And why, with the odor of days imprinted in synthetics, my coming back down is hard for others, too!

Re: stupid light
Honing the edge of understanding exactly what you need, being ruthless about holding to that, and using skills to push that edge is SUL. Hold on everyone. It seems that now that UL has become ma...

Re: Attaching tent pole sleeves to the actual fly
I'd like to see you actually sew option B over more than a few inches. It would be maddening! Especially with silnylon.

Re: Re: Sleeve Diagrams
Option A can be sewn like this. Probably the simplest of the options. Option B can be sewn with a sewing machine like this, but it would take up quite a lot of fabric and be quite heavy.

Re: Attaching tent pole sleeves to the actual fly
It's much stronger if you put them in at the seams, and also doesn't introduce a weakness into the fabric. You might want to try doing diagram "A" with the edges rolled inward,...

Re: The SUL Mindset
Two things I love about this article: One, it doesn't come with a gear list. Two, it harkens back to the joyous, free-spirited playfulness of early BPL and UL days. This is what I so love...

Re: chacos
Am I the only one who never liked Chacos? Every one I have tried on the soles felt like boards. Prior to the Unaweep soles Chaco soles were not so stiff, nor so immensely thick. I can't wear...

Re: Slippery Top
Early Chacos (when they were still Gecko) used a nylon strap system. Nylon stretches when wet and so the straps come loose when in water. Later they changed to polyester strapping. Polyester doesn&...

Re: Ueli Steck tossed off Everest
I guarantee you that in the next decade, the westerners will be traveling with their own western bodyguards and packing more than an ice axe. This is just the attitude that is causing all the gr...

Re: Brawlin' on Mt. Everest.
This is going to hit the international news, and most of that news is going to be from the side of the climbers and westerners, with few people listening to what the Nepalese have to say. It is ver...
