My Locale Southern California
About Me I live in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. I can get to a lot of nice hiking areas right from my street or travel for 15 minutes to higher elevations in the Angeles National Forrest. I started packing again with my sons in their Boy Scout troop. I was definitely not light that first trip 6 years ago and have been reducing my pack weight ever since. I mainly pack a few times a year in the Eastern and Western Sierras.

Attempts
I spoke to Andrew yesterday and he mentioned Allen's attempt. He knows Allen and posted his Spot on his Facebook page (dad does not Facebook). As stated earlier, he is out on the CDT in Wyoming...

Nice Job

SPOT
...Or maybe Ralph is out doing something incredible and we should wait and see what the outcome is and not worry too much about the SPOT.

JMT in May
So, my son hiked the PCT this summer. We resupplied him going over Kearsarge Pass to Charlotte Lake. It was June 16th, 2014. This year I think ended up being 14% of normal snowfall. On the way up K...

Did I get sick?
No, I did not get sick. I was just wondering if it would have any effect on any such PARASITE like giardia when it goes down the gullet.

A bit of Giardia with a Chlorine Dioxide chaser
Recently I took a short hike over Shepherds Pass in the Eastern Sierra. I had never been over the pass and wanted to see if for myself. Anyway, as usual, I threw a bunch of my stuff together and...

Freezer Bag
I used to not like freezer bag cooking due to the leftover food in the bag. Kind of nasty if you are on a longer hike where you can't dump trash. So, we would use a 2 cup Glad or Tupperware ro...

Joseph, Thanks for the link. I have seen a lot of reports over the years and looks like a place to visit. I'm in Southern California so it's hard to push on up to Tahoe when there are so...

First Trip
Great report and photos. I am sure most of us don't use filters anymore. Kind of clunky. Like the suggestions above, Steripen, iodine, and chlorine dioxide are the treatments of choice. I...

MSR MIOX
We used a MSR Miox on a trip with 9 people (Scouts). We got very spotty results and ended up playing with the unit more than we wanted. It seemed like the perfect solution but was not worth the wait. ...
