My Locale Oregon and Washington
About Me I started hiking about 45 years ago. My first backpack was 40 years ago. I currently try to do one backpack trip of 5 nights every month (which can be tricky in the winter) 20 to 50 miles. Mostly I stay around Mount Hood, Columbia Gorge, Mount Adams, Goat Rocks, and the Olympic Peninsula. In recent years I have shifted to lightweight - my pack weight without food and water is about 15 lb (7 kg). I make a lot of my own gear - silnylon tarp-tent, bivy, synthetic bag, simple bag style pack. My sleeping pad is a Therm-a-Rest air mattress.

color of pack, sleeping bag,...
Seems like a pack should be light colored. White would be good. Relective material would be good. Then, my cold water bottle will stay cold inside. And any food I want to keep cold. Sleeping...

Re: Mideast legacy? Militarism, empire
I have no problem with anything you're saying Kat. I don't think there are any clear decisions about all this. I think Obama did make the decision to pull out of Iraq. Yeah, Bush had...

"Carter was the last president I have/had any respect for" I didn't like him at the time but he's looking better and better. I think he has good ideas about the middle East no...

Ha, ha,... I totally disagree with Nick Yosemite is great. A lot of people enjoy it. Leave it as is. A lot of places are more wild for those of us that don't like the crowds in Yosem...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: War on Isis unconstitutional
No If U.S. military is on the ground kicking in people's doors for years, it's stupid - counter-productive. If you just have air strikes, that is just one condition to make it legit ...

Re: Re: Re: War on Isis unconstitutional
"Boots on ground" is the problem. When you have U.S. soldiers occupying land, kicking in doors of civilians, then it creates "new terrorists" faster then you kill them. Like...
