My Locale So. Calif.
About Me I've been hiking since the 70's. Spent about 20 years in the outdoor retail end of things. I now help teach an outdoor training class with the Sierra Club. I'm a docent at a nearby Nature Center and a volunteer diver at the Aquarium of the Pacific. I like making my own gear.

Got Enough clothes?

Alum crampon
Dave, I found aluminum 1/8" thick. It is 1 inch by 1 inch angle stock at my local hardware store. It is fairly soft material. It cut easily with a hacksaw. It was cheap and not exotic.

plantar fasciitis
That arch pain in the morning reminds me of when I had plantar fasciitis. My latest foot problem was in the ball of the foot and when pushing off. Limped around for 6 weeks before finally went to...

Add traction to Northern Lite Snowshoes? MYOG?
I own both Norhtern Lite Quicksilvers and MSR Lightning Ascent shoes. Snow hiking in Southern California and the Sierras, I find a lot of hard snow where the extra "bite" on the MSRs'...

Price drop
I lowered the price on the Black and White pack. This pack was inspired by the "Porter 4400"

Fabric Choices
On the Red and white pack, everything that "shows" is made with vx07. The extension collar is made with 1.9 Urethane coated Ripstop. I rarely filled up the collar, so it is largely prote...
