Mailing - Packing Tape
I've had many years of use on a cup coozy made with the packing tape and lighter than duct tape. If you use the clear type it kind of destroys the red neck looks though.

Aluminum Extension
Are your poles adjustable? If they are you can remove the top section and find a pole the same diameter that is 6" longer and can carry with you for when you need to extend it.
