About Me Hiking is something I kind of fell into to. I have always enjoyed camping both as a child and now as an adult. When my brother decided to take up hiking I noticed that all my friends enjoyed it too.
I like the minimalist philosophy of less is more. From the beginning I have made an effort to carry as little weight as possible and only what I need. The concept was one I had been practicing on family vacations and trips since I was a teenager.

I have to second Kendall's request about the thread. I've often pondered the best thread for this or that. I have some nylon stuff that looks like fishing line (I thinks it's nylon) ...

Tyvek Backpack - Hip belt
That pack looks awesome. Great job! It doesn't look like there is any padding in the hip belt. Do you still find it comfortable and do you think it affects the performance of the pack in any way?

Always bear bag your food.
On a two night hiking trip at a small nearby park reserve I made a pretty dumb choice once. The park is close to the city and fairly civilized. It was a short 3/4 mile hike to the camping area and ...

Re: proper storage / signs of 'lost fluff'
Tom, any type of long term compression will reduce the sleeping bag's R value. A stuff sack would still hold the bag in a compressed state, albeit a less extreme state than that of a compressio...

Lens solution alcohol container
I was watching a video by Jason Klass and he was using a contact lens solution bottle. The cap screws on and it's pretty leak-proof. Being a contact lens wearer myself, I decided to give it a t...

WM Ultralite weight
My Western Mountaineering Ultralite is 31.35 oz packed. List is 29 oz so I assume the extra 2.35 ounce is the stuff sack.

Blox stain repellant for fabric
Has anyone seen this product (Blox) or tried it? I wondering how well it would work as a water proofing. But it kind of seems too good to be true. There must be some downside to it.
