Is he carrying his own gear or will there be porters? If porters, then he might want to consider one of the heavier duty thermarest pads in light of his back. But maybe someone here can recommend...

A couple of years ago we did the Pine Creek one, from there into Humphreys Basin, then back around through Granite Park before going out Pine Creek...you could also go all the way over to Lake Ital...

Well, if I fish I'd probably need something suited for bass, right? Is there anything else in Mississippi (website doesn't mention any other fish) Is the bass there good eating?

Certainly I share gear with my significant other; and it's always been our practice to share non-shelter gear with the group when possible when we backpack with others, at least to some extent....
