My Locale Intermountain West
About Me Thru hiked the PCT in 1983 and half of the CDT in 84. Backpacking since 1973 when I did my first 50 miler as a scout. Total gear nut and have dropped from a base weight of 35lbs to 10 - 12lbs and love spending time in the mountains even more. I typically get out for 2 week long trips and several weekend trips each year.

Re: NeoAir Xtherm Noise?
I just returned from 9 nights on an xtherm that was new and I didn't notice the noise and it was ├╝ber comfy - even compared to my ul7 down mat. I purchased the large xtherm and LOVE the extra...

Re: $36+?
Mine came as well and paid $30+. Nice pack but a bit small for me for serious use as the torso length is pretty small. With the load lifters fully engaged it comes closer but I may cut the should...

Re: Summer night temps
Just got back from a late "summer" trip and nights ranged from 35f down to 9f over the course of ten days. This was in the Winds mostly sleeping over 11,000 feet. Typically my trips occ...

Re: Re: That 40-20F sliver?
I stay in shorts unless it's particularly windy and/or wet in which case I may pull on wind pants. My top would be long sleeve base layer and perhaps a wind shirt. This is while I am on the m...

Sorry, I leave a week from tomorrow hence the longer term look. If you take the CDT you can make it more interesting by staying on the Freemont trail as the Highline can be a bit mundane. You can...
