About Me Started hiking somewhere around Y2K, with a 50 pound pack, incl. food, water and fuel.
That dropped down to ~37 pounds incl. f, w & f, which wasn't that bad concidering traditional gear and food for ten days!
Than the UL bug bit me and my gear weight dropped and dropped to a baseweight of ~10 pounds for my Scotland-16-day-Solo.
Going solo for 3 days two nights max, baseweight is down to 4lbs2; Going solo for longer baseweight is down to 8lbs2.

Tip #31
I don't find that my transition from hiking to camp or vice versa is faster with my UL pack. As a good UL hiker most of my gear is multi-use, this means that if it's raining I'm hiking ...

Re: Hiking alone - how to amuse yourself?
My solo hiking days usually consist of nothing more then eat, sleep, hike and an hour of journal writing. Usually I do get lonely after a few days of hiking alone, but I'm lucky to life in Euro...

"Then of course there is the issue that of my bias, which I keep mentioning. I say 4.8kg is UL dang-gum-it!" I'd say that too! There are still a lot people in the metric world that...

Re: Re: Re: Hiking Through Hyperbole: About guide books
Ryan, Eugene, Thanx for the tips, but I am no where near planning a PCT hike in the near or far future (I hike in Europe). Sorry if I gave that impression. I was just wondering out loud why you ...

Re: Hiking Through Hyperbole: A Walk in the Clouds
I haven't gone out hiking since a long Pentecost weekend in 2010. Reading your articles definitely reaffirm that I need to go out asap. I hope this year I can get a TMB fast pack and a section ...

Re: Hiking Through Hyperbole: About guide books
Ryan, What about carrying maps of the trail instead of guide books? I don't know if maps in the US have these trails indicated on them, but I would guess so. Getting the most recent copy and...
