My Locale Southeast
About Me I've been backpacking for several years, and am not an ultralight guy...I'm probably teetering on the line between light weight and traditional. I normally carry 25 - 35 lbs (total weight including food and water). I typically go on 5 - 6 trips a year consisting of weekend trips with a longer (1 - 2 weeks) one mixed in there. I have been section hiking the AT since late '07, and am a quarter of the way through it. Other than the AT and local hikes I have also hiked in the Sierras and Southern Utah.

Re: PCT Bear Bag Hanging - no biner
I've been using the PCT method for a while, and in my opinion the caribineer is part of what makes the method somewhat easy to use. There are a few things that the caribineer does. First off ...

Re: Ultralight Water Prefilter
@Ken Ahhhh...so it's glued in there. I got the impression that it was somehow just press fit in there. Ok, I actually left a lip on the cap I was working with so gluing in a piece of scree...

Re: Re: ultralight water prefilter
Alright, I hate to sound totally dense here, but I looked at John (Quoddy) and Ben's pictures for how they made the cap with the mesh screen in it and I just don't get it. I bought a coffe...

Re: Steripen AdventurerOpti questions on batteries and pre-filter
Thanks for the replies. I did not realize all CR123 batteries likely have the safety circuitry in them. So I guess this is not a big deal. I will be sticking with name brand batteries (I just ...

I’ve been using this headlamp (both the original and newer version) for years. The reviewers above pretty much covered everything with this headlamp, so I am not going to repeat all that. It’s light...

I have used this tent many nights over the last few years. It has been my main inclement weather/winter tent, so it typically sees the worst weather I go out in. Well, let’s get right into this. ...
