It keeps going
More expensive low fill pushes people who would buy the cheaper gear into better gear which increases the demand for better gear which increases the price.

You can buy 2 part foam kits from smooth on if you wanted to try to make a foam midsole. But if you can hack a more minimal shoe you can do a sewn in leather insole with a layer of cork for a bit...

Snap setter
I think you want a snap setter. Theirs pliers type and anvil type (where you it a tool with a hammer with the snap setting on a metal disc)
