Re: Camera or good smartphone camera?
I have an RX100 Mk 2 and it is indeed an excellent camera. But for backpacking I often use my lady's Sony HX50 as it has a big zoom capability of 30x which is great for wildlife and distant cra...

Re: Tarptent StratoSpire 1 fly only
Excellent, thanksfor the additional info. Looking carefully at Henry's diagram, you can see in the plan view that the SS-1 isn't a regular hexagon, and is a bit longer across the strutted c...

Re: Tarptent StratoSpire 1 fly only Vs Hex 3
Thanks again Franco, a most interesting comparison. A few points: 1) The Hex starts a few inches off the ground too, so you're a bit low at the 110" extremities. 2) The SS 1 is ~106...

Re: did everyone give up and sell their Tensegrity?
In those conditions, everything that needed to stay dry would be inside or tied up in a trash bag. That's how I keep stuff dry anyway. I guess if you don't dig tarps, it's not the tent ...

Another just went through gear swap. The more I look at and think about this design, the more impressed I am. Parked tail into the wind, they're very robust, provided they're well staked. I...

Re: Tarptent StratoSpire 1 fly only
Thanks for taking the time to do this Franco. I'm tempted I have to say. It looks like a very stable and roomy shelter for me and missus shorty. Just a bit tight on sleeping length for me th...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ProTrail vs. Notch
Not even enough to make a patrol solo. It'll be a slightly shortened Hut 1 (82" instead of 89" ridgeline), using both trekking poles at the front A frame so I can lay out partly into ...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ProTrail vs. Notch
Unfortunately I'm not in a position to buy a notch and a Stratospire fly-only to test out the theory. I like the look of the Stratospire shape though. I'm struggling to design a tarptent of...

Re: Re: Re: Re: ProTrail vs. Notch
Hey thanks John, I'd visited the specs tab but never noticed the 'show dimensions' link. It looks like the notch is just a few inches longer 'corner to corner'. The reason for t...
