My Locale Midwest
About Me I am in my late-40's and really got interested in backpacking about 10 years ago as a way to have some concentrated time with my boys, now all finishing up high school or in college. I try to get out a few times a year, including a bi-annual trip to Colorado for some of the big stuff. Otherwise I am stuck in the very boring midwest where everything exciting is a good day's drive away.

ULA CDT
I have the ULA CDT and really like it. I have broad shoulders so the S harness is great for that. I was surprised by how big it is--it's huge. I use a Thermarest Z-pad cut down as a sit pad ...

SMD Lunar Duo
I have the SMD Lunar Duo that I use with my 20 yr old son and am surprised it doesn't get more attention on this site. It is a great tent. It's 40 oz in silnylon but it is huge inside and...

2 2-men tents?
Have you considered doing 2 2-man tents instead of one that can fit the 4 of you? You can pitch your kids close to yours and they will likely think it is cool that they get their own tent. I sugg...

Pack and pad
I have an Osprey Atmos 50 pack in size large that I would let go, as well as a Thermarest ProLite 4 long. I'll follow up tonight when I get home from work.

Re: mugbowl
Adan, great catch on the Vargo Titanium 750 Sierra cup. Perfect. Lid and all and found it for $20 on backcountrygear.com. I liked the Snow Peak set as well but twice the weight and I didn't ...

But can you cook in it?
I agree that it is easy to find something like the plastic bowls and there are a lot of threads on it. But what about one that you can cook with/in?

Me too
Great question and thread, as I am looking for the same thing. A good mug that will do duty as a cooking vessel but also as a bowl for eating. Short, wide, but not a pan...
