Montbell Ex Light Vest or WM Flash Vest?
I just went with a Cabela's down vest, on sale for $16.95. But then again, I can be kind of a cheapskate. I do love my WM bag; if the vests are anything like it, they must be wonderful.

GoLite Footwear Competition and Fire Reviews
The first pair of GoLites I bought for my son wore out in a 9 mile hike up Guadelupe Peak. The last few pairs I've bought (of the older models) have lasted pretty well.

Women's GoLite Jam - $50, free shipping
The great deals are always on women's specific gear. Probably a lack of demand.

Bright Orange Cuben
Those cheap blaze orange vests from Wallyworld weigh next to nothing, I'd just tie one on.

Andrew Skurka's "big" Alaska trek
Sounds like the perfect sponsorship opportunity for SPOT Messenger. And Smith & Wesson. You know, I can't even imagine thinking something like this up, let alone thinking I could do it.

You Tell Me...What is the Best Gear Ever???
Insulated air mattress (not a self inflator). Otherwise a lot of us old guys couldn't sleep well enough to backpack.

Andrew Skurka's "big" Alaska trek
If I was attempting that, I think I would have to carry a PLB, despite my dislike of them. And something for bears. He should have a naming contest. I just hope it doesn't end up being the &quo...

Quilt vs. Bag
Using a quilt is like sleeping at home, unless you use a mummy bag on your bed. Campers used blankets for a long time before the sleeping bag, let alone the mummy bag was invented.

DIY Quilt
I'd sell it, and but down. 800 fill down is only $8 oz.

Replaced my Exos 58 with this, much more comfortable, with more weight. Got a deal on a 2008 model, and added the dual stays. A lot bigger pack than I'll use most of the time. Gained some weight o...

Switched to this for more durability, and the ability to carry more water in the desert. Works like a champ, and you couldn't ask for better customer service.

I have to ding it a little for the hip belt. I think the hip belts on the large runs small, because it didn't wrap around me enough to be effective. And that may not be fair to ding it, because al...

Mine kept me warm in the upper 20s, so I'm happy. I'm not completely sure it would reach 20, and keep you warm for 8 hours. But it's a great product for a great price.
