Worthwhile option
I find cleaning the footprint a LOT easier than cleaning the tent bottom. So I always use it. You can use it only for wet conditions if you like. Also, I get to use the tent with fly-only mode...

I can tell your right now that this would be perfect for canoe campers. They have less focus on weight. But I agree, for the typical UL purposes, it's pointless.
