My Locale Oregon and Washington
About Me I started hiking about 45 years ago. My first backpack was 40 years ago. I currently try to do one backpack trip of 5 nights every month (which can be tricky in the winter) 20 to 50 miles. Mostly I stay around Mount Hood, Columbia Gorge, Mount Adams, Goat Rocks, and the Olympic Peninsula. In recent years I have shifted to lightweight - my pack weight without food and water is about 15 lb (7 kg). I make a lot of my own gear - silnylon tarp-tent, bivy, synthetic bag, simple bag style pack. My sleeping pad is a Therm-a-Rest air mattress.

Re: Recommended tarp floor material for snow
Good silnylon is waterproof. I assume they use good stuff. You could ask them what the HH is. Should be greater than 1000 mm. If it's not waterproof or if it's slippery, coat it with ...

Re: Re: Re: Re: cigarette plug USB charger
If you're watching the voltage, you can just disconnect it when it achieves the desired voltage. A controller is not 100% efficient so you lose some of the solar panel power. I have a sol...

Re: cold acclimitization
I wonder if acclimitizing can increase risk of frostbite. If you're restricting flow of blood to skin, then it might. Or would make your fingers less dextrous so you could get injured.

Re: aqua mira
The way chlorine is heavier is that you have to put it in water, then cary it for an hour or whatever, then drink it. So you have to carry the weight of the water. With filter, you drink it imm...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Tiny house anyone?
My wife and I live in RV. 8' x 32'. That's pretty tiny. We don't live for more than a week or two, but some people live full time.
