I wouldn't expect the titanium blade you bought to split wood. Titanium knives are sort of like a more useful, more robust version of a razor blade.

I find they fit true-to-size. Conversely, I find that Merrells fit a bit small. I wear a 12.5 Innov-8 Roclite 295, and a 13 Merrell Ascend trail glove. Both fit very well.
