About Me I day hike, scramble, or snowshoe about once a week; usually these have between 3,000 and 5,000 feet of elevation gain and are 7-12 miles long. Once or twice a year I'll go on a short backpacking trip. I've been doing this for about three years. Recently I've gotten into hiking lighter, and UL philosophy. I'm looking forward to learning from the BPL community. I have a PhD in computer engineering and am a software engineer.

M/L, R/T
Without reading the whole article, I'd like to know what M/L and R/T are. (It'd be nice if definitions for these quantities appeared somewhere near the table(s) they're used, and/or in...

Re: Snow Peak
What a steal .. only $221.54 USD. I wonder how effective the Snow Peak titanium thermos is at keeping heat in. I also wonder how much it weighs. The translation is unclear about what weights to ...

I am not sure which REI pants I have. After some time the label wears off and it's not so easy to tell any more. Often I'm not wearing anything up top except a base layer. Two weekends...

I'm interested in getting a pant that improves on the REI pants that I have. The REI pants have done ok for me, keeping me somewhat warm (but not dry), and have been very durable, but I want s...

Emergency Jacket vs. Vest; Nilsey's Chart; Hyperion?
I'm interested in getting a puffy jacket or vest (1) for emergencies, and (2) occasional non-emergency use on cold multiday trips. This item would be something appropriate for using as emergen...
