My Locale North East Ohio
About Me I'm an ARMY Veteran of 13.5 years. I spent the years mostly in combat oriented jobs, mainly Infantry, which gave me a chance to see the world. That was my introduction to backpacking of a sort. Through my Military career, I backpacked more than 10,000 miles. Now I go simply because I love it. I also mountain bike, rock climb, kayak, and do nature photography. I wouldn't call my self an ultra-lighter per say, but my base weight is just below 12 lbs.

"Backpack Options for Injured Shoulder: Lumbar Packs or Luxurylite Pack???"
I tore my right rotator cuff rock climbing about 15 years ago. It can take quite a while without surgery for the problem to go away, as it did with me, especially when you're forced to use it w...

Re: Tape
I'll second the use of clear packing tape. It stays in place very well and also stay flexible under most conditions.

There's too much opinion and information throughout this thread for me to cite and comment on individually, so I'm going to do a blanket statement of sorts, and fill in some detail as I go ...

Depends on comfort and sleepiness.
I've been known to sleep in all the positions mentioned in one night. I'm a very restless sleeper. I love the sounds of the outdoors in the wild, so I just can't seem to fall asleep. Af...

Care and reviews are critical.
I know I'm a little late with this but: My first scale was a WeighMax Shipping Postal Scale. It weighs up to 35 pounds. It has a sensitivity of 0.2 oz. http://www.amazon.com/Weighmax-Ship...

Re: "$20.00 OFF CUPON AT BACKCOUNTRY.COM"
No, I get one every year or two. It's not actually a coupon. It's an in store credit that they apply to your account for a free $20.00 credit. They send you an e mail notification for it. T...

There's so much ranting I could do here that I'd sound like a lunatic. Once when I was in dire straights financially, I worked briefly in a Walmart Photo Center. Never again. Slightly ch...
