My Locale Mike McHenry hasn't told us about their geographical region yet.
About Me I'm Mike. I go to school at the University of Kentucky and reside in Northeastern Ohio. I'm an ultralightweight, but I try not to sacrifice too much in the name of fractions of an once. After all, it should be about backpacking and not calibrating your scale. Starting out as a relatively lightweight backpacker, I have not had to move too far into the world of UL backpacing. I have numerous backpacking goals and look forward to lightening my load and improving my skills.

Lets face it. Anyone going into business flipping used backpacking gear to BPL members is clearly not thinking straight. I have a hard time believing there are people out there consistently tryin...

Extra Socks
A lot of people carry an extra pair of wool socks which can be a great substitute for not only mittens, but a pot lifter as well. I use mine on the handles of my SP600.

Frank, I have a relatively new FJ Dryjoys jacket and a half sleeve jacket. I think the half sleeve jacket might be an excellent piece of gear for summer downpours as it would keep you pretty dr...

I just think its amazing that our NPS can tell you how far is too far and how dangerous is too dangerous. If you believe you are at risk of being told you can't go on your planned hikes, I wou...

Jarrett, I guess weight will always be on the mind after going UL. I think next to backpacking, travel itineraries such as Ben's above are just as suited to an UL mentality. I too am a mou...

Bob, IMO a method that requires two bags, two ropes, an equalized amount of weight in each and 14 steps to explain on top of the typical hassles of hauling a bear bag is too complicated for me. ...

Bob, I am kind of in your boat. I guess I would consider using this method if there was something I was already carrying that could be used if I drilled holes in it. To me, a clove hitch on a ...

With multiple use in mind, is there anything else you could use the piece of PVC for or is there anything in your kit already that would serve or could serve the same purpose with two holes drilled...

Petzl Tikka
Overall this headlamp does what I need it to do. I wouldn't call myself a gram weenie, but my base weight is under 10 lbs. I just don't see the need to sacrifice a solid headlamp for a small...
