My Locale Southeastern US
About Me I've been backpacking since age 12. In the more recent era, we have done a variety of trips in Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Colorado, Washington and California. As of this past August (2006) we can add all 14 states of the Appalachian trail to this list. My wife and I thru hiked the AT finishing August 23. This was the culmination of our "3 year Plan" (that actually took 4 years) of hiking the Wonderland Trail, the John Muir Trail and then the AT. We are hooked on long distance hiking! We also own an outfitter shop called Pack & Paddle.

Ray Way quilt kit two person deluxe
We built our Ray-way quilt last winter in anticipation of our AT Thru Hike. We planned to get it shipped up to us whenever the weather warmed up some. We did this around the first week of May. Wha...

Funny story about this filter (and filtering in general): We were a few months into our AT Thru hike up in Maryland/PA and decided to have our gravity filter shipped up to us. We had been using pot...

Beyond Backpacking by Ray Jardine
To everyone that is complaining about this book: Backpacking is as individual a skill as anything you will ever do. Things that work great for one person don't work for another. Because of th...

ThermoJet MicroLite
Probably what I like best about the Thermo-Jet is the design of the windscreen/pot support. Then again - maybe what I like best is that this stove burns hotter than any other stove we saw on our 5.5 ...

Granite Gear Vapor Trail
I carried the Vapor Trail 2174 miles this year on the AT. Here are my impressions: First of all, the pack is incredibly comfortable. There did seem to be a point at which the pack was noticeably ...
