+1 on North Rim
We stayed at the North Rim for a few days in mid June. On the middle day we hiked down to Roaring Spring and back, a 10 mile round trip. It was 37F at the top when we left (around 430am) and 105F a...

Re: nikon 1 j1
The Nikon 1 series is a good upgrade to a point and shoot. That's a great price if it comes with the kit zoom lens, and this is a fine system for a 14 year old. A Micro 4/3 system is also a...

Re: Re: Re: Re: "R.E.I. return policy"
"so if my Rei pack falls apart after 1 year (not due wear and tear) they will fix/replace it?" that's what their new policy states. YMMV. I don't represent REI in the slightest...

Re: Re: "R.E.I. return policy"
There is a difference between a lifetime warranty, and a lifetime no-questions-asked return policy. REI has always had the latter, and people take advantage of it by thoroughly trashing and using u...

Re: Getting back into backpacking -- going UL after years of carrying 50+ lb packs
Assuming you mean the ULA Circuit, not the (discontinued and frameless) Conduit. Either the Circuit or the Catalyst would be an excellent choice. I've been happy with my Circuit for 2 years now...

Re: Sit Pads are Great!
I use one all the time. If I'm hammocking, I use a 3/4 length CCF pad inside, and that becomes my pad at breaks. If I'm tenting, I carry a separate piece of CCF as a sit pad. Just cut from ...

Re: Need a new camera
I like the Panasonic ZS series -- a big zoom in a tiny camera, with image stabilization and a wide angle lens. The ZS 19 is about $250 at Amazon. Decent image quality for such a small camera. The I...

Re: WHICH BACKPACK
I've had a lot of packs, from giant heavy monsters to frameless rucks, and my Circuit is my favorite. Carries as heavy a load as I'll ever need, large enough for my "winter" gear ...

Photon Freedom Micro (White)
The newest version is the Photon Freedom To The Max, which uses some sort of new technology in the LED that doubles brightness while not using any more battery power. Nice. The Doug Ritter edition ...

Marmot Ion
I just received my Marmot Ion jacket from Campmor, and I agree with the two most recent posts. I don't think it's sil-nylon, exactly, but my hiking test had water beading up on the inside whil...
