My Locale Jay Lash hasn't told us about their geographical region yet.
About Me Been backpacking for about 10 years as a Scout leader. I "discovered" light weight backpacking after our first trip where I carried nearly 50lbs (with food) for 4 nights. There had to be a better way! Three years and a couple hundred dollars later I arrived at Philmont with an 18lb (base weight) pack.

Tarp weight vs cost
My Troop is not really your target audience because we dont do much backpacking (the one thing I dont like about living in Iowa). But, as committee chair, yes I would buy the slightly heavier tarp...

Long handle and flexible
Ive broken lexan spoons too. Now I use a McDonalds McFlurry spoon - long enough to get to the bottom of the FD or freezer bag meal, flexible enough that it doesnt break.

Gutter nails
A couple of years ago I needed about 120 tent stakes for my Scout Troop. Gutter nails seemed the way to go but they were pretty pricey for the small package at the big box stores (and I didnt need...

You just missed the Valentines Day sale on the Six Moon Designs Lunar Duo Outfitter. But, the regular price of $160 is still a good deal. I got one two years ago for my first PSR trek. Spaci...

My son did #22 last year with another Troop and our Troop did #21 the year before. Trek 21 was about 90% the same but run from south to north. South to north is probably better if you are &qu...
