My Locale Ozarks
About Me When my husband moved here from the UK in 2008, I all of a sudden had someone to do things with. And he had a new country to explore. So we started hiking and camping and that led to kayaking and backpacking. We get out every single chance we get. This has become quite an obsession.

Re: Re: Two Safety Pins
Sometimes the obvious can so stunningly escape me. I can't believe I never thought of this. Safety pins. Wow. And they could be used to hang my undies from the loop inside my tent, too. Duh.

The Exped pillow is nice but not anywhere near high enough for me. So I gave it to my husband and bought the large. It's just bigger but not much thicker. If I have spare clothes I'll put i...

We just did the Berryman trail in March 2011. It's a well graded trail and an easy circuit (24mi) without any difficult terrain. I didn't find it to be poorly maintained, but then I hike in...

Different strokes
So many different needs. I have a freestanding tent with footprint so that I can pitch it and take it down in the rain without everything getting soaked. Because it always seems to rain when it'...

it's pure myth
IMHO, it's pure myth. Layer me up! I'm a darned cold sleeper. I've got an insulated pad and a 0 degree Montbell SS. I'm okay below freezing if I'm wearing a base layer and socks...

Re: Hiking Pants: What do you Wear and why?
I've seen no mention of Bass Pro's brands of fishing clothing. XPS and Worldwide Sportsman. You don't need to fish to wear them! My husband wears the shorts for hiking and everyday in s...

I'm a sweaty girl.
I agree with Art. I don't doubt that you sweat a lot. I also don't doubt that you get cold from it. I think you'll find that this is true for many of us. I also sweat profusely during m...

Re: How to dry out wet socks in the backcountry?
If it's not going to rain over night, put them on a branch. Not over a branch...slide them down along a branch so the wind won't take them away. Or try hanging them inside your tent some...

trail glove
I've got a pair here I've been evaluating. The fit is great, and I agree with Piper about how your foot and gait will adapt to a new style when backpacking in a minimal shoe. My big problem...
