About Me Hiking & backpacking for about 15 years now. Learned the hard way (11 years in the army) that heavy gear may work, but sucks carrying it! Consider myself more of a lightweight backpacker. Do most of my trips in the Alberta & BC Rocky Mountains, so expect and pack for the worst weather, even in summer.

bear spray, dogs, etc
I love my dog and he loves going out for a hike. But I leave him at home now. DOGS = BEAR BAIT. End of story. Bear spray is a good deterrent, along with common sense.
