Ohm Mesh
I've always been torn on the Ohm mesh. I does tear too easily and if you overload it, then it permanently gets saggy, but it can be incredible useful. You can keep a lot of stuff really handy. ...

I don't agree with the comfort trumps all philosophy of pack selection. Packs impact your body in two ways: At the specific points where the pack interfaces with your torso (i.e. pressure po...

UD Jacket
The torso length looks pretty short, which is commonly an issue IMO on light rain jackets.

SMD Fusion/Flight
The weight of the Fusion packs does put them among some stiff competition. At >3 lbs, I would expect excellent load carrying, robust materials and a full set of features. My initial armchair imp...

Nice pack. The Ohm 1 also has the frame external, while it's been moved internal on the 2.0. I like the Ohm 1 better. This version with the hipbelt pockets is the best one.

Wow the JMT has been elusive for a lot of great efforts this season. Tough country.

JMT Record Attempt
It's probably easier just to consider all multi-person efforts as "supported" since at a minimum each participant is supported by the camaraderie and safety net of their partner, plus...

Nice comments. You used some solid gear. I also love the DuoMid + Solo Inner and the LG Poles w GG grips.

Is Silpoly less slippery than Silnylon? If so, that would be a good reason to switch if Silpoly is similarly waterproof and durable. I suspect the slipperyness is similar though since it's the ...

Mountain Laurel Designs Cuben DuoMid
The DuoMid is the best shelter for solo hikers. Don't be misled by the "Duo" in its name - you could cram two hikers in here but it's poorly suited for that (ie. no vestibule space, ...

Spark-Lite Fire Starter (Survival Gear - BPL Gear Shop)

BPL FireLite Firestarter
I love this FireLite Mini. It's the only thing that I 100% trust to start a fire. With a mini Bic you can run out of gas, be at too high of an altitude, get it wet or get it oily. Matches can ...
