Cylinder shape
Just make a cylinder with it so it acts as a frame, then stuff everything else inside of the cylinder. Only problem is that it does cut down on the volume of the pack.

That would add a lot of weight to a pack when it probably wouldn't be anymore comfortable than your normal foam straps/ back panel.
