Re: nighttime temps
In late July you can expect nighttime temperatures that rarely fall below 30F at 8,000-10,000 ft. Unless you are a cold sleeper, your Golite quilt and solite pad should handle that just fine. I thi...

Re: SHR
Bravo Andy. I was hoping you'd post a TR at some point. Really enjoyed the fantastic photos. I think my sleeping bag was in the exact same spot as yours below Palisade Crest.

Re: Flyroc 310
Jim, I haven't worn the Flyroc 310's but my understanding is they are almost the same shoe as the Roclite 295 which I've worn extensively. Personally I would have no problem hiking that...

Re: What's so great about the JMT?
Many newer backpackers choose the JMT for their first extended trip, so there's a disproportionate amount of threads about it since those newer backpackers have lots of questions. The splendor ...

Re: Understanding UV protection
I wore a Rab MeCo 120 long sleeve shirt for 12 days in the Sierra, mostly above 10,000' and very sunny, and didn't even get a tan underneath, let alone a sunburn. I haven't worn a Cap1 ...

Just sent you an e-mail Jay. Andy, thanks for the reminder. I had totally forgotten about the view down the Middle Fork from Windy Ridge. Your pic takes me back to being there. I didn't take...

Hey Jay, sorry, I should have realized that you would be interested in this trip. My bad on that one. Hopefully we can get together for the next one.

ULA Ohm
The Ohm is my go-to pack for trips that don't require a bear can. You can fit a Bearikade in it, but it's not very comfortable because it bulges into your back. I put a plastic frame sheet fro...
