It's certainly an interesting issue in orthopedics right now. And a lot of money is at stake. I will admit I had a meniscus tear trimmed with VERY good results. I know, anecdotal.

I suspect a jacket and sheet or bivy will suffice. I would soak the sheet in permethrin. I have gotten chiggers so bad backpacking in the south in August that I have mostly quit doing it in August.
