A word of caution. When you peel off the Tyvek tape it might peel off fibers.I had this happen. I think the tarp as is would be great for a PCT trip.Sell it and have a mid with a hood custom made....

I would use it unprotected in most East coast sites/ duff,dirt,grass.The rocky sites might puncture it as it would puncture any ground cloth.I find that with an 1/8'' pad under,then poncho,...
