My Locale Wet & Humid Southeast....
About Me My stomping grounds are the SE US, and 90% of the time, somewhere on the AT in GA, TN, or NC. Other times I enjoy going to the Smokies, or other smaller wilderness areas such as the Savage Gulf area.
Most of my trips are between 2 - 5 days long, with rare 7 day long trips. My total pack weights are generally under 20 lbs, unless trying new gear, or carrying extra for the kids. In the dead of summer, I enjoy SUL hikes, and have given thought to XUL (almost there...)

Re: ZPacks Arc Blast for 16" torso?
ZPacks does measure their torso height a little different than others. Here is the method that they use. It is easy to do actually. However, if you need a smaller size, I suggest shooting them a...

Re: Z-Packs Arc Blast vs Mariposa Ultralight?
I have been using my Arc Blast for a little over a year now, and I love it. The most I have carried in it has been around 25 lbs, and it rode great. I wouldn't be too worried if I had to carry ...

Re: Sleeping pants
I am in the down pants boat with most others. As well, which TAR pad do you have? If it is the All Season or even better, the XTherm, it would likely be fine on it's own, but it never hurts to ...

Re: Re: Downproofness of Montbell 7D fabric
I agree with some of the others, my UL Down Inner pieces seemed to leak more than either my regular Ex Light, or the newer Ex Light Anorak. I am quite pleased with this... I also agree with the ...

Re: Re: re Durability
I don't wear my Cap 2 shirt year round, so it only sees around 30 days of use per year with a pack on, and maybe a few more here and there as an undershirt. Saying that, after 5+ years with my ...

Re: Re: Re: Capilene
I have an Icebreaker 200 weight shirt that I picked up for half price. I was excited when I got it, but after using it to hike in, haven't been to thrilled with it. Once it got wet from sweat, ...

Re: evernew vs platypus
Both are great. However, if you are using a Sawyer water filter, go with the Evernew bags. If not, go with whichever one you can get cheaper.

Re: ideal conditions
Jimmer, if you are experiencing winds of at least 10 mph or more all the time, you would likely be better off with the Windboiler? Being a weekend hiker, I can pick and choose when I go, and whi...
