My Locale Central Plateau
About Me 25 years of hiking, 5 of bikepacking. Biggest trip a 20 day solo hike from Napier to Turangi across the Kaweka and Kaimanawa Mountains. Arranged a chopper food drop half way (no roads or settlements in NZ wilderness parks). Saw just 2 people - choppered in and out hunters - through the whole trip. Decided to go lightweight just a year ago after 20 kg pack endangered me untenably on scrambles and river crossings during 6 day solo in Ruahine Ranges.

Matthew, that's fantastic. Great of you to give me all that; saved me a millennium of googling. Most excited about pushing on with this now.

Z Pack Arc Blast
Anybody tried one of these yet? Worth the price tag? I had settled on the GG Crown when Z Packs came to my attention. 500 gm weight saving over the Crown is ultra tempting...

Went with the Uber Bivy. And while I was at it I got one of Dave's lightweight Emergency Bivy's also for fair weather travel (at that price and weight, why wouldn't I?). Now the ship...

Re: Miles Gear
Yeah, I've had some correspondence with David. Seems a great guy who really knows his stuff. I'm just a bit concerned that the pack size of the Uber is a little big for something I'll m...
