I think another important factor here is that fabrics with alot of elasthane(spandex) in them tend to be really tightly woven, partly because the spandex is pulling it together so the air permeabil...

I would put the weights closer to the fabric as well, when the rod flexes more force will be put on the edges than the middle of the bond
