Yeah, I have used your first way, when you tighten the cord it becomes so hard it's more or less impossible to sew through it so I have just gone back and fourth a couple of times over the cord

Aha, sorry! I misunderstood you. There is a second drawcord on the back of the hood. The draw cord around the face opening only really closes that opening, it doesn't make the hood any smaller....

How windy is it? Maybe you don't need to use the RAB Alpine Jacket? When I'm biking in the winter its really rare for me to use a shellayer, I usually put on an extra fleece or two instead....
