For me, the Big Zip wouldn't work as well as a small rigid "cup" does with small seeps and puddles. Katherine has a good point about the weight.

Waterproof gaiters are really nice to have in snow. The lower half of my pants are soaked without them. They also keep your legs and feet warmer.
