If you want seriously warm wool for a given weight, then get some qiviut. That is the wool from a musk ox, like in Alaska. Unfortunately, the stuff is hideously expensive. --B.G.--

I found that a polyethylene sheet works OK as a ground sheet on snow. Since it is slick, it won't freeze and stick to the snow. --B.G.--
