Overview

Nearly 35% lighter than alkaline cells, lithium round cell batteries are ideal for the lightweight backpacker needing AAA batteries to power headlamps, GPS units, and other outdoor electronics. With a lower operational limit of -40 °F, they are also superb cold weather performers.

Our Favorite AAA Gadgets

Some of our favorite gadgets that we like to take backpacking require AAA batteries - and the new Energizer Lithium AAA Batteries will now allow us to power these devices in colder temperatures for longer periods of time at less weight than standard alkalines.

Garmin Geko 301 GPS Unit. A near unanimous choice for best lightweight GPS among our editorial staff, the 2xAAA provides more power for its size and weight (3 oz) than any other GPS unit we've tried.
Sangean DT300VW Pocket Radio. With a weather band, this little 2xAAA Sangean gem weighs only 3 oz but provides outstanding radio reception for its size and weight, and good utility for capturing weather stations while on ridges and summits, or near population centers.
AAA LED Headlamps. AAA LED Headlamps are the most popular model among lightweight backpackers: they provide more power than coin-cell units, but (usually) at much lighter weights than AA headlamps.
