Virtual Pack Day Three Meals (Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2008) - 1
Unlike me, Bob doesn't have braces, so these Clif Shot Bloks are a great choice for a quick shot of energy. With 50 mg of caffeine, these chewy cubes can get a day started or keep it going. They can also pop a bracket off, but hey - these are for Bob!

Ova Easy Dried Eggs
Weight (oz): 4.4 (enough for twelve!)

Clif Shot Bloks: Black Cherry
Weight (oz): 1.7
MSRP: $1.99

Remainder of Orange Chili Chocolate Bar

Clif Bar – Blueberry Crisp
Weight (oz): 2.5
MSRP: $1.50

The eggs are a lightweight, protein-rich brekky - but the quantities are ridiculous. They'd have to be decanted into smaller containers to be more efficient. Also, we've not actually tasted them...but they are cool, and it's late.

The Shot Bloks really are a mouthful of chewiness, so I had to be careful. They come in a number of flavors and are pretty much the same composition as a Clif energy gel, with the addition of pectin for a solid set.

The finale of a solid stand-by, the Clif Blueberry Crisp, reflects the fact that I like Clif bars, and while alternatives were definintely present, I never got a chance to try Bob gets to finish strong with 43 g of carbs to power through to the end. Much like us here.

Marmot Helium vs. Montbell #1 on 01/28/2008 15:23:59 MST Print View

Wouldn't the Marmot Helium be a better choice at 7 oz less? Or the Helium EQ and save the weight of a bivy sack?

Hi Richard-

The Marmot Helium or Helium EQ certainly would have made a fine choice for Bob's trip. As we plan for Bob to have a 4-season tent, the EQ version shouldn't be needed. As for the standard helium, Marmot apparently didn't have one on display at their booth for photos, so it didn't fit our only-gear-found-at-OR criteria.

OK, I'll bite. Even though I'm a summer camper I can manage to use my existing clothing and go for a winter camp trip with Bob. New sleeping bag, Pack, Probe,(I'll borrow a PIEPS from a friend!), plus that cool hat. The cost should be under $750..lets go!

My wife and I have these and am very happy with them. They offer a lot of performance for their weight in full-on winter conditions with an abundance of snow!

It looks like it is available now. They say they will ship from the UK, but it is pricy.
available from canada: $20 + $5

I'm going to show this to my wife. She's tried some similar products, but had a backup problem because of the small spout.
