Customer Testimonials

"It (the Cocoon Pullover) is as I imagined it: light, warm, beautiful, and more...like a cocoon. Thank you!" - Sabine de Bourmont, Angers, France

"I received my Cocoon pullover recently and wanted to pass along a note of thanks. I had eagerly anticipated the arrival of Cocoon and wasn't disappointed when I opened the box. After noticing the great color my immediate impression was how incredibly lofty the pullover was for its weight as I pulled it out of the box! I had hoped for something that would replace my Western Mountaineering Flight down jacket when I anticipate wet conditions, but in my estimation the Cocoon will replace the Flight on ALL OCCASIONS! The Cocoon saves me 2 ounces over my Flight, may keep me just as warm AND will be more effective in wet conditions. Once I tried it on I was also very impressed. The fit was excellent and the fabric smooth and soft to the touch...I could tell that the Cocoon would instantly have a permanent place on my gear list. You've got a winner here Ryan - put me down for a pair of Cocoon pants as soon as they're available!" - Mr. Mike Maurer, Oceanside, CA

Overview

The Cocoon UL Pullover was the first piece in the Cocoon product line, and remains a "workhorse" ultralight layering garment.

Used alone, the Cocoon UL Pullover is plenty of insulation for most high elevation hiking during the summers in the Continental United States.

Sizing Info

The Cocoon UL Pullover is sized large so it can be worn as an outer layer as necessary without compromising its loft due to overcompression of its insulation. If you prefer garments to be more "trim", you should opt for one size smaller than your normal size. If you prefer garments to be roomy, you should opt for your normal size.

User Guide: Cocoon UL Apparel

Applications. A Cocoon UL series garment is best used as an insulating layer to put on at rest breaks while hiking, climbing, or skiing in cold weather; as insulating clothing for cold evenings and mornings in camp; and as an insulating layer to supplement your sleep system. It is not recommended for use as an outer layer in wet weather because of its non-waterproof shell, although if it does get wet, it dries faster than garments in the Cocoon PRO series (which have a less breathable but waterproof outer shell). The Cocoon UL series is not intended to withstand significant abrasion, as might be found while bushwhacking or Class 3+ rock/ice climbing. Generally, these garments will be too warm to wear as a midlayer while hiking (except for the vest), although they can certainly serve as such when the body is not generating great amounts of heat in cold weather, and thus, make a great warm-up piece for morning hiking or as a midlayer in emergencies or unexpectedly cold conditions.

Field Care & Repair. Small punctures and rips can easily be re-sealed with a tiny smear of McNett Seam-Grip. Larger rips can be repaired using the McNett Seam Grip Field Repair Kit. In the absence of these specialty repair items, rips can be repaired using cloth duct tape. Cocoon products use construction techniques that afford a minimal amount of stabilization to the continuous filament insulation. Consequently, they must be handled with care and should not be overstuffed. Generally, you should plan on stuffing no more than 16 ounces of Cocoon products into a single 500 cubic inch stuff sack.

Home Care & Cleaning. At home, Cocoon products should be stored uncompressed (not on a hanger) in a cool, dry, dark place. They should only be hand-washed with mild soaps such as McNett ReviveX Synthetic Fabric Cleaner. DWR on the outer shell of Cocoon products should be restored with McNett ReviveX Water Repellent (spray type) rather than wash-in water repellents which can cause the insulation to clump, because wash-in repellents are difficult to rinse out of insulation. Cocoon products can be dried in a clothes dryer (home type only, never a commercial one found at a laundromat) on LOW heat or AIR FLUFF settings only.
