Overview
Featuring a waterproof/breathable outer layer the Cocoon PRO 60 Parka is suited well for alpine travel, backcountry skiing, cold-weather belays and stormy treks. Although the fabric is waterproof/breathable, the seams are not sealed, thus the parka will perform better in snowy conditions below freezing than it will in wet conditions above freezing.
The fabrics are excellent for myriad cold and high altitude applications. The other features of the garment lend themselves well to these applications as well. A full front zip eases entry and exit to the garment. Roomy front pockets allows easy access and storage of slings, skins, water and other essentials. A full-sized hood is roomy enough for hats, balaclavas or helmets and has a tensioning system to provide the best fit around whatever headgear you choose.
The parka's fit is determined by your other layering choices. It is sized "roomy" for use over other layers, as its waterproof/breathability allows it to be the outer layer, thereby maximizing the insulting fabric's loft. If you opt for a more athletic fit, you may want to consider "sizing down."
To offer the best protection from the cold and wet outside, the Cocoon PRO 60 Parka offers elastic cuffs and hip without the hassle and unecessary weight of closure systems. The sleeves are slightly long in order to allow the user to withdraw their hands inside for warming. The rear of the parka is also of a drop-tail design to keep the users backside warm. Field Care & Repair
Small punctures and rips can easily be re-sealed with a tiny smear of McNett Seam-Grip. Larger rips can be repaired using the McNett Seam Grip Field Repair Kit or the McNett Gore-Tex Fabric Repair Kit. In the absence of these specialty repair items, rips can be repaired using cloth duct tape. Cocoon products use construction techniques that afford a minimal amount of stabilization to the continuous filament insulation. Consequently, they must be handled with care and should not be overstuffed. Generally, you should plan on stuffing no more than 16 ounces of Cocoon products into a single 500 cubic inch stuff sack.
Home Care & Cleaning
At home, Cocoon products should be stored uncompressed (not on a hanger) in a cool, dry, dark place. They should only be hand-washed with mild soaps such as McNett ReviveX Synthetic Fabric Cleaner. DWR on the outer shell of Cocoon products should be restored with McNett ReviveX Water Repellent (spray type) rather than wash-in water repellents which can cause the insulation to clump, because wash-in repellents are difficult to rinse out of insulation. Cocoon products can be dried in a clothes dryer (home type only, never a commercial one found at a laundromat) on LOW heat or AIR FLUFF settings only.
