The 12 x 15 inch gussetted odor-resistant O.P. Saks (for food and toiletry storage) are ideal bear bag and bear canister liners, and we use them as liners (included) with our UrsaLite Bear Bag Hanging System.
Well, yes, quite so. We slathered a bunch of honey, peanut butter, and olive oil in one and left it out for four days in the corner of a forest service cabin while we were out tramping around on a hike. We knew the cabin to be infested with both mice and pack rats, and when we came back, the O.P. Sak was intact with no sign whatsoever of animal intrusion, despite the fact that there were fresh droppings and sawdust scattered throughout the cabin.
Ursack liners are actually O.P. Saks. And, we've been using O.P. Saks for food storage while backpacking in both grizzly and black bear country in Glacier NP, Yellowstone NP, the Bob Marshall Wilderness, Tetons, Wind Rivers, and Uintas. Below the treeline, we simply add a mesh sack with a drawcord and hang our food with AirCore Plus. Above the treeline, we store the O.P. Sak under a pile of rocks, or sometimes, just sleep with it next to our shelter. Even in the most rodent-and-bear-infested areas, we've not had a single curious critter attempt to get into the O.P. Sak.
To test bag prior to use, trap a small amount of air inside the bag. Seal zipper completely by sliding fingers from one end to the other, being certain there are no kinks or bends in the seal. The zipper seal should feel smooth and wrinkle-free.
Submerge bag in a container of water and squeeze sides to test seal. If air bubbles appear, the bag is damaged or not sealed properly. Repeat the test to verify if the bag is damaged. If defective and unused, contact Watchful Eye Designs, LLC for instructions on how to return the defective bag for replacement.
Caution: Leak-proof bags are durable, but not indestructible. Normal wear is not a defect. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPLACE THE ALOKSAK WITH A COMMERCIAL OVER-THE-COUNTER RECLOSABLE BAG. Aloksak bags have a unique closure system that holds three patents and has been certified leak-proof to 200 feet/60 meters by the National Association of Scuba Diving Schools. These bags have been tested by the United States Navy and are approved for diving applications.
