Montrail Kailua Sandals
We’re always looking for that perfect camp shoe. Something to slip into after a long day of hiking that will let your feet air out and relax. Something better than cheap Target flip-flops to go down a river bank and get water without dumping you on your rear end. But that shoe should weigh next to nothing or you won’t bring it.
We may have found something very close. Montrail has a new line of very light sandals that are grippy, comfortable and functional. We don’t have a weight on them yet because we couldn’t get them off the show floor to our hotel room and the BPL gram weenie scale. We’ll try again to get a weight tomorrow. Just picking them up I would guess they are between 2 and 4 oz per sandal. They come in full heel strap, glide and flip flop versions.
In addition they are among the most comfortable sandals we’ve worn. The sandals have adjustable, cushioned straps and contoured footbeds that you can custom thermofit using your oven at home. They save weight by not using a full hard rubber sole. Instead they attach cast polyurethane nubbies to the foam bottom of the sandal. The nubbies have good wet traction.
