Article Summary:
The Black Diamond Zenix uses a lens-focused hyperbright LED that puts out an intense and narrow beam that has light output that exceeds many halogen bulbs. The Black Diamond Zenix had excellent cold weather performance, exceeding the performance of headlamps with lower-wattage LEDs powered by Lithium AA cells. The Black Diamond Zenix is well-suited for navigational lighting and is bright enough for mountaineering use (data presented in main article). However, its short range task lighting suffers from inefficient battery drain, and data is presented that make us wonder why the two peripheral standard LED's are even included. However, at 4.54 oz with batteries, the Black Diamond Zenix is the lightest "high intensity" headlamp on the market and an oustanding choice for someone looking for a long-lasting navigational light.Buy Access to This Article
